VE6AB Mobile Ops
Water Works.
While out chasing train photos, a track off of a backroad brought me to this treasure, an old well-pump from a different time.
For those whom are un-initiated, you don't want to wander to close to a old well pump like this, as buried in the grass could be a open well that you could fall in to costing you your life.
On this morning while chasing after train photos, and normally on 30 meters running robust packet radio allowing my mobile to be gated and placed on Google maps, normally I use a fixed 30 meter monobander antenna, however lately the bands haven't been that great, so on this morning before leaving home, I switched out antennas, installing my 10-80 meter gearmotor antenna with a more robust whip that outperforms my 30 meter monobander antenna.
With my mobile running RPR on 10147.30 mhz, my mobile was being gated to the Internet by KL7AA-5 located in Anchorage Alaska at a distance of 2500 kilometers in one hop.
