VE6AB Mobile Ops
Crossing Over
Wildfires have been taking a toll on the province of British Columbia, as wildfires burning throughout BC rage out of control for the most part.
Approximately 30,000 people having been forced from their homes, some of whom have lost their homes due to the fires over-running communities.
With the smoke having thinned somewhat in southern Alberta, it was time to drive the Willow Creek road leading over the hump that allows you access the country located south of Higwood House part of Kananskis Country.
Of course I couldn't not stop for a photo-op upon reaching the summit of the hump before continuing on to secondary highway 940, the junction located several kilometers away.
My truck was loaded with all the gear that I felt I wanted along just in case, including my manpack with its FT-897 and vertical 10-60 meter vertical antenna. I also had fly-fishing gear along, as the idea was once I reached the Livingstone river located south of my location, I would try my luck at fishing this pristine mountain stream for the Cutthroat trout that swim in its waters.
Although the bands were not in great condition, I was being heard on 30 meters while operating RPR HF APRS.
Being there was no other coverage of any sort, it was good to know that I was being heard across the continent while exploring the back-country of Kananaskis Country, located in the southwest corner of southern Alberta.
