VE6AB Mobile Ops
The 220 Band
What your seeing here is my recently re-installed TYT 9000 220 mobile transceiver in my mobile.
This transceiver is one that I purchased some years back and had it installed in my mobile, but while restructuring the radio stack, the 220 band transceiver had been removed with the reinstall to happen shortly after.
Long story short the transceiver languished on the shelf for more than a year until recently when several local hams asked what had happened to my mobile capability on the 220 band.
In the Calgary area we have a terrific 220 band repeater with good coverage owned by CARA (Calgary Amateur Radio Association) callsign VE6RYC.
Since reinstalling the transceiver, and talking to several hams on the CARA 220 repeater, I'm realizing how well the system works with a terrific footprint in the area surrounding Calgary.
We as Hams everywhere should make the effort to utilize this under used band that already has had part of it taken away from us in the past.
Now if I can just pick up the right microphone when answering a call coming through the speaker.
