VE6AB Mobile Ops
Robust Packet In The Alberta Rockies
Beautiful morning to be out and about playing ham radio.
The bands were in good shape on this morning, and I was pleased to decode my furthest station yet on 30 meters HF APRS with station ZS6SS-10 located in South Africa at a distance of 15,867 kilometers, as depicted on the screen of my Garmin Montana, once my SCS DSP/TNC Tracker decoded the packet string received via my Kenwood TS-480HX, and sent the APRS Datagram to the Montana.
Those of us in North America running Robust Packet were joined by two new stations recently, that being Andrew's station VE6EN-15 located in Calgary AB, and Dale's station VE3XZT-15 located in Ottawa Ontario.
When Dale's station popped up on the screen of my Montana, I was able to make contact with him from my mobile station VE6AB-15.
I was hearing and working VE3XZT-15 directly at a distance of 2900 kilometers via HF APRS and robust packet.
I'm looking forward to making more contacts with the various robust packet stations on the network.
I am also anxiously awaiting Jeremy N1ZZZ the captain of a ocean going freighter to put to sea next week.
Jeremy's ship will depart Houston on May 1st bound for N.E. Africa amongst other destinations.
Jeremy runs robust packet from his ship, so it should be fun to try and work him as he operates marine mobile.

What is Robust Packet you ask.....
