VE6AB Mobile Ops
Shack-In-A-Pack - Remote Mobile
Whatever the circumstances, it could be hiking a back-country trail, public service, or hanging out at Starbucks, I have full control over my mobile while wearing my shack-in-a-pack.
Starting from the right is my Yaesu VX-8R that is used to communicate via my Kenwood D710A mounted in my mobile, that is set up for cross-band communications.
I also have my Kenwood D710A pared with my Kenwood 480 HX HF rig via a data cable, allowing me to cross-band from 2 meters to HF if desired.
On the left is my UV-3R with the Mobilinkd TNC communicating via Bluetooth with my smartphone running ARRSdroid.
This bi-directional APRS in your pocket station is communicating with my Argent Cable OT3m/ROVER-15 weather station package mounted in the cargo bay of my mobile.
This gives me full remote control operation of these two devices via APRS messaging, that includes commanding the OT3m digipeater on when required, allowing this tiny fully bi-directional station to access the network as well as the Internet via RF.
My smartphone running APRSdroid has bi-directional messaging capability, as well as open-street-maps depicting other APRS stations beaconing in the surrounding area.
Smart-beaconing allowing me to lay a track while out hiking and shooting photos away from my mobile. The track that I lay down while on the trail is being uploaded via my mobile to aprs-fi on the Internet.
Also, I have a bi-directional remote-start device mounted in my mobile, allowing me to start the engine for maintaining the charge in the batteries.
I can also keep an eye on what's happening with my mobile via the bi-directional LCD equiped device that I have with me at all times.
So just to reiterate what I described above, I really enjoy using my full featured mobile while in it, but my shack-in-a-pack allows me to utilize the capabilities of my mobile while away from it.
