VE6AB Mobile Ops
Champagne Flight
Over the years I have been involved in helping to launch hot air balloons as I was doing on this morning. The payoff is that I have been on a number of flights involving hot-air balloons.
On this morning after the balloon had been launched and underway, my mobile was one of the chase vehicles following along on backroads until the flight ended and the balloon was packed up and put away until the next flight.
Of course it goes without saying that not only was I communicating with the pilot of the balloon on one of my VHF radios, but I also found time to make contacts with several distant stations on 17 meters using my HF rig and gearmotor antenna seen mounted on my mobile.
Also utilized on this morning was aprs to allow the balloon track to be mapped for future usage.
