VE6AB Mobile Ops
On this morning while playing ham radio on 17 meters, I have just completed a contact with Alex GD6IA located on the Isle of Man, part of the British Islands.
The Isle of Man is a very interesting place, and once I made contact with Alex, and being curious about where he lived, I sourced the following information....
The Isle of Man is not part of the United Kingdom like most people think, even though geographically the Isle of Man is located in the middle of the British Isles. The country is a British Crown Territory, and the relationship with the United Kingdom is complicated. Their Parliament has been in existence for over 1000 years. The residents have a rich social and cultural history with their own Manx language and independent spirit. The Government of the Isle of Man controls their laws, taxes, social services, education system and currency. The people of the Isle of Man are called Manx. and around 85,000 people live there.
The Isle of Man Government actively supports ham radio with, amongst other things, repeater sites and QSL cards.
