6 Meter Ops
This photo finds me chasing trains on a day when 6 meters was also on my mind as seen by the fact that my 6 meter loop is seen mounted on the back of my mobile.
With the band showing activity, and email alerts flowing in to my mail box daily alerting me to that fact, it was a given that I would have my 6 meter loop loaded in the cargo bay of my mobile for times that I wished to use it.
Today, it's easier than ever to get on six meters. as most HF rigs today seem to have 6 meter capability included. With the rig in hand, the obvious next step is to acquire an antenna that goes along with your favorite 6 meter rig.
Over the years I've had various 6 meter antennas that I built or acquired mounted on my mobile, and I throughout that time, I continued to look at different designs. hoping to find the antenna that would give me the performance on 6 meters from my mobile.
The design that I had in mind would be horizontally polarized, omnidirectional, and optimized for working the SSB portion of the 6 meter band.
The 6 meter loop as seen on my mobile has proven to do exactly that.
Here is my article as published in QST that describes this antenna further.....
