VE6AB Mobile Ops
Mountain Topping - 10 Meter Mobile
Sunrise finds me on the summit of the Wildcat Hills road NW of Cochrane Alberta, with the peaks of the Rockies catching the first rays of sunlight as the sun peaks over the eastern horizon.
The bands were in great condition with 10 meters being a lot of fun, and I had fun working hams in Europe and South America through several North American FM repeaters, including the very popular 10 meter repeater KQ2H located in New York state.
If you haven't tried working any 10 meter FM repeaters before, give it a try as they are a lot of fun.
10 meter FM repeaters are usually found between 29.600Mhz and 29.700Mhz.
The offset for 10 meter FM repeaters is almost always -100khz.
If the band is open, you don't need a lot of power and you shouldn't use a lot of power.
Too much power might open up more than one repeater, which will cause confusion and interference with the contact you're trying to make.
You might be surprised at how many contacts you can make using the 10 meter FM repeaters using less than 50 watts.
You can find KQ2H on 29.620 Mhz with a minus offset, and the input frequency being 29.520 Mhz, with a tone of 146.2 Hz CTCSS in and out.
KQ2H is a very popular 10 meter repeater, and you will hear hams from around the world working through it when the band is open as it was on this morning.
