Under The Cover of Darkness - Mysterious and Inviting
This image is about seeing, and with that in mind, I knew how I was going to shoot this photo before I got out of the truck with my camera.
Its about what photographers have been saying from the beginning..."Composition is the strongest way of seeing"
Having said that, I could have easily made a photograph with my electronic strobes that perfectly exposed every inch of my mobile.
However my photograph as shot speaks for itself, and it is perfectly exposed for what I wanted it to convey to you the viewer.
Do you remember as a kid how you laid in bed at night with a transistor radio (yes it said on the front of the radio how many transistors it had), and the covers pulled over your head, slowly turning the dial and listening for rare broadcast stations that you could only pull in at night?
Listening to these DX broadcast stations in the dark was much more thrilling than listening to them with the lights turned on.
I still get that feeling all these years later while backroading under the cover of darkness, and listening to DX coming out of the speaker of my HF rig, with the display softly glowing in the darkened interior of my mobile.
That's what I want my photo to convey to you....
Mysterious and Inviting.....
The breaking dawn is front and center from my operating position, with my mobile parked on a ridge with a steep drop-off just beyond the east facing passenger side.
With the bands being in good shape on this morning, I had fun working hams in various European countries.
