VE6AB Mobile Ops
Emergency Prepardness On The Road
Whenever I head out on a roadtrip, I consider the possibility that I may be gone longer than I planned for, and therefore I load my mobile accordingly before heading out.
With my recent road trip through Kananaskis Country located in the Alberta Rockies, and over the Highwood Pass one last time before the wintergates at either end are locked down for the winter, it was imperative that I stayed connected while making the drive.
After I left highway 1, and drove highway 40 through the Kananaskis valley ringed by high mountain peaks, it was a given that cell-phone coverage was non-existent.
However I had no concerns on this day, as the APRS coverage was superb with my beacons being heard by the FORTRS mountain top digipeater and kicked up into the APRS network and placed on the map as seen here.
Its all about staying connected while going down roads less travelled.
