VE6AB Mobile Ops
Due West
Early morning finds me backroading along the eastern slope of the southern Alberta Rockies.
Conditions on the HF bands, and in particular 17 and 20 meters were perfect, with contacts made across Canada and the US on this morning.
Of course as per usual when I head out into areas with no conventional (VHF) APRS coverage, I was running with RPR (Robust Packet Radio) HF APRS activated, and I was being heard and gated across Canada the US at distances up to 3200 kilometers on this morning.
Interestingly, several days ago I made an RPR APRS HF contact mobile to mobile on 30 meters with Jean 6W7RV-10 running mobile in Nova Scotia at a distance of approximately 4000 kilometers, as he begins a cross-country tour of the US and Canada.
Jean flew in from his home in France some days ago to begin his adventure driving an RV across Canada and the US beginning in Nova Scotia on the extreme edge of the NA continent as seen in the insert photo.
Jean will also be active on VHF (D710) APRS as F4AHV-9, so those of us in Canada and the US will want to listen for him and say hi via APRS messaging, or possibly via a voice contact.
I have my contact (VE6AB-15) with Jean 6W7RV-10 logged in the station list of my Garmin Montana as seen on the extreme right of the screen of the Montana seen in the insert photo, that is paired with my SCS Tracker/Kenwood TS-480HX mounted in my mobile.
