The Chase for MOXER-6
The display of my Kenwood D710A is displaying Moxer-6 beaconing as it passes over my location in southern Alberta just east of Calgary and on a north-easterly heading,
Moxer-6 is a high altitude APRS balloon that was launched in the UK
I had fun chasing Moxer-6, and also managed to capture and upload some of it's packets to the Internet, as I had my computer running APRSIS32 connected to my D710A , and uploading to the Internet via my smartphone set up as a wifi hotspot.
If you expand the photo and look close at the display of my D710A, you can see that the distance between Moxer-6 and my mobile is 0.1 kilometers, or it is centered more or less right over my mobile.
Of course Moxer-6 is 44,000 ft or aprox 12 kilometers straight up from my mobile!
I had a great couple of hours chasing Moxer-6 across southern Alberta, and the packets being received by my 710 from this high-altitude-balloon as it attempted to circumvent the earth, were music to my ears!
Of course loving the sound of packets may not be for everyone!
