Down any Backroad in the Alberta Rockies
Beautiful fall day finds me backroading in the Alberta Rockies south of the Highwood Pass in Kananaskis Country, and just north of Highwood House, the junction of highway 40, highway 940, and highway 546, where I spent the day shooting photos, and playing ham radio, not necessarily in that order.
From Highwood House south driving highway 940 down to highway 3 is as it was 40 years ago, as the road is still gravel and if you don't like gravel roads with lots of dust when meeting the odd vehicle, don't take this road.
However if you don't mind gravel roads, then drive this 65 mile stretch of road that borders the eastern slope of the Rockies and the Livingstone range where the headwaters for the Livingstone river and the Oldman river have their origins.
The fly fishing in the streams located along highway 940 is to die for, and rivals any of the streams and rivers of North America not only for the fishing, but also for the scenery that this part of southern Alberta is known for.
Check it out sometime, you won't be sorry.

Why I actually drove this 400 kilometer route on this day.....
