VE6AB Mobile Ops
VE6AB Analyzing Antennas
Early morning finds me southeast of Calgary parked on a bluff overlooking the river breaks that border the Bow river visible from my position.
This location is a terrific location for working mobile, and also would be a great location for field day as the location has commanding views to the horizon.
In this photo I have my antenna analyzer connected to my newly minted Inverted U rotatable field dipole up top of the Max Gain Systems push up mast mounted on a aluminum receiver mount that I also built recently, and it is inserted in the receiver of my mobile.
I must have did my calculations correctly while building the antenna, as out of the bag I had a 1:4 SWR on 17 meters, the band elements shown in place on the ends (look close, the elements are hanging on the ends of the horizontal section) of the 10 meter horizontal telescopic dipole antenna in this photo.
The antenna covers 10 through 20 meters by changing out the inverted band elements that attach on the ends of the horizontal section of the antenna.
The other bands needed very little tweaking as well before being set to go on the respective bands.
Here is a closer look at the Inverted U antenna....
