Key Down
I built this key approximately 25 years ago when I taught myself CW for the endorsement on my amateur radio license.
Funny how that went, I took the key with me to use for my CW test, and all the examiners present on that day had to try it out, before I finally got it back and then was allowed to successfully pass my CW test with it.
I have acquired other keys over the years, but this key is still my favorite key.
For those that are wondering as to the construction of this key, I selected 6061 high-tensile aluminum for all the parts that appear grey in color.
The axle was turned from stainless steel with 5/16" mounting stubs at either end mounted in ball-bearings.
All other parts like the contactors are made from stainless-steel with brass knurled locking nuts.
The knob was turned in my metal lathe from Rose wood which is quite hard and only needs polishing once finished to size to give it a nice finish.
Button head Allen drive machine screws hold everything together.
The Aluminum parts were glass-beaded and sprayed with a protective finish.
The small stainless steel plate riveted in place has the makers name on it, that would be me.
For its size its actually is quite stable when in use thanks to the sticky feet used.
