VE6AB Mobile Ops
Make It Fit
You have seen many photos showing the radio stack located in my mobile, and part of the stack is my Kenwood TS-480HX seen in those photos as well as this photo.
Problem is that the 480 only covers the bands of 6 through HF, and recently I saw the need for an all mode radio that could be used with my 2 meter horizontal loop antenna that I added to my mobile recently for weak signal work on SSB.
Already owning a Yaesu FT-897D that I use for portable work, I decided to see if I could mount it in my mobile..
As seen here I achieved success with the FT-897D now mounted in place near my radio stack where it is easily operated from the driver's seat.
The FT-897D may also be used with my 3 band (2, 220, 440) log-periodic antenna that mounts on my Max Gain push-up mast mounted on the 12 volt rotator mounted in the receiver of my mobile for stationary work.
2 meter horizontal loop mounted up top of mobile.....
