Night Vision Enabled
What you would see looking through a Night Vision Device (NVD is a exterior view over the back deck of my mobile of the road behind, along with my 17 meter monobander mounted in place on the back deck of my Avalanche.
Included in the insert photo is a interior view of my mobile showing the radio stack.
By now I'm sure that most of you are familiar with the workings of NVD's, but a brief description may be in order.
A night vision device (NVD) is an optical instrument that allows images to be produced in levels of light approaching total darkness. They are most often used by the military and law enforcement agencies, but are available to civilian users.
The term NVD usually refers to a complete unit, including an image intensifier tube, a protective and generally water-resistant housing, and some type of mounting system. Many NVDs also include sacrificial lenses, IR illuminators, and telescopic lenses.
Night vision devices were first used in World War II, and came into wide use during the Vietnam War. The technology has evolved greatly since their introduction, leading to several "generations" of night vision equipment with performance increasing and price decreasing. Another term is "night optical device" or NOD.
Many outdoor stores that carry optics also carry civilian versions of the NVD.
Now I can go down the road at night with all my running lites shut off.....NOT!
