VE6AB Mobile Ops
The Ultimate Amateur Radio Mobile
I've mentioned before that I shopped and bought my Avalanche based on the fact that it was first and foremost about amateur radio as the number 1 reason for purchasing this vehicle..
So this photo shows my newest antenna loaded up in the cargo bay, along with my Max-Gains push up mast assembly, and the log-periodic being 7 feet in length, and with that I had to lower the midgate to make that happen.
With the rear seats folded down, and the midgate dropped, the interior is still out of the weather. If I need more space, I can remove the back window and the cargo bay covers as well.
Now you may be thinking, what does he do with the log-periodic if he needs the back seat.....and the answer is that once I've done the initial setting up and tuning of the antenna, I plan on making it into a take-down log periodic.
This is simple enough to do, and then the antenna will fit in the cargo bay with the midgate returned to the closed position.
Of course there is a whole lot more about the Av that makes it the best ham radio mobile platform out of all the previous mobiles that I've owned over the years, and that includes the simplicity of mounting HF antennas and what not in place.
If you haven't been a regular visiter to my website, and not familiar to all that I have going on with my mobile, the weather sensors in the form of an anemometer, and wind-direction sensor are part of the APRS weather station mounted on the right side of the cargo bay.
This weather station may be operated as a mobile weather station, or removed and operated in a strategically chosen area, and the batteries maintained by a solar panel also stored in my mobile.
Of course it goes without saying that when activated, my weather station is visible on the Internet.
Did you notice that the radio stack up front is visible in this view.....
