VE6AB Mobile Ops
Where The Wind Blows
Yep, that would be in the Wintering Hills of southeastern AB, where this wind farm is located.
There are 55 General Electric 1.6 MW wind turbines located in this wind farm, that produce 88-megawatt of wind power in total.
While passing through the area, I stopped by to charge the batteries located in the engine bay of my mobile.
Ahhh.....I'm just funning you, as I actually was out prowling the backroads in the area looking for vistas that would allow me to cut a piece out of the landscape with my cameras, immortalizing it for all time.
I also wanted to get an idea as to how far advanced harvest was in the area, as I plan on returning once the combines are in the fields.
This area of southeastern AB with its rolling landscape is mainly farm country with fields that wrap themselves around rolling hillsides, not unlike the 'Palouse" area located in Washington state south of Spokane, that has a look that is desirable to landscape photographers, and that includes myself.

I found it interesting while my mobile was parked approximately 100 meters away from this wind turbine, how much electrical noise was being generated, as my Kenwood TS-480HX mounted in my radio-stack was picking it up on 30 meters, the band of choice on this morning, as I was running with HF RPR APRS activated, insuring that my mobile was being seen on Google maps.
Once I had captured the images that I needed, and drove my mobile away from the turbine's location, the noise segments visible on the S meter of my 480 dropped away to nothing.
Here is a short video clip that I made while pointing my shotgun mic at the turbine housing, allowing you to hear the noise being generated by one of the electrical generators located in the housing above......
