VE6AB Mobile Ops
Making It Talk
Early morning finds me making adjustments to my 2 meter horizontal loop seen mounted on my mobile.
This antenna is a recent installation although it is not a permanent fixture, as the mount is also shared by my two HF antennas as well as my 6 meter loop.
The mount has two separate runs of coax terminating at the radio stack mounted in the cab of my mobile, one of the coax for my Kenwood TM-480HX, the other coax for my Yaesu FT-897D used for weak-signal work.
When not in use, the 2 meter horizontal loop assembly seen here is quickly removed and stored in the cargo bay of my mobile.
All of the antenna assemblies that share this mount use quick disconnects that allow for quick install or removal when switching out antenna systems.
With the day being Sunday morning, and after I disconnected my antenna analyzer from the antenna, I reconnected the coax to my FT-897D in time for the Sunday morning weak-signal net on 144.200 MHz SSB where I checked in with the net control station. Later the group located in southern AB moved up to 144.220 MHz where the Sunday morning round robin takes place.
The 2 meter horizontal loop antenna continues to perform well with minor tweaking still ongoing, although I happy with how the antenna is working out so far.
The Radio end.....
