60' Turntable
When I began planning a new module that once complete would be added to my existing HO scale switching layout, the one thing that was certain was that it would include a pit turntable.
Now the problem right out of the gate is the fact that all the turntables that I looked at were mainly 130' turntables scaled for larger locomotives than the SW1200RS switchers that are used on my switching layout.
So I decided to scratch build the scale 60' pit-turntable seen here, although it certainly meant a lot of extra work to design and build it. The turntable is powered with a belt-drive 12 volt motor supplying the motion to turn it to the desired track. For the moment I am using a separate power supply to power the turntable, however the future plans is to use a locomotive decoder to power the turntable, allowing the turntable to be controlled by the NCE DCC controller that operates the various switchers on the layout.
For the time being, I am enjoying operating the turntable with the various switchers that need switching to different tracks or turned around.
