Jerry Clement > Bow Valley Park Way - Banff Park
Jerry Clement > -35 Celsius - Southern Alberta Plains - I cannot think of a place that I would rather be at first light, but witnessing the start of another day. I do not jest when I say this, and that is regardless of the season. Pre-Dawn is a mystical time of day where you should be alone to witness the beginnings of the new day, and I find it a moving experience that unfortunatly does not last long enough, although the good thing is that you get to do it all over again tomorrow.

Jerry Clement > Kananaskis Highway - Sunrise

Kananaskis Country - the best kept secret in the Canadian Rockies.

There is no finer place in Alberta than Kananaskis Country and I find myself exploring the various areas of K Country every chance I can. The fly fishing in its pristine streams and high mountain back-country lakes is superb. For those of you not in the inner circle, Kananskis Country is the secret playground of the locals, and is located in Southern Alberta. Kananskis Country borders on to Banff National Park, where we allow our visitors to hang out. In 1858 John Palliser a British explorer and his men, crossed through the Kananaskis Pass just to the south of where I shot this photo, while exploring the area in search of a pass through the mountains to the pacific.

Jerry Clement > Holy Mackrel - Another photo where I peeked in on someone. In this case, I was parked at Chain Lakes more than 200 meters away when I saw this photo-op. I used my 500mm that happened to be mounted on my camera, and shot out the open window of my truck off of a bean-bag through the drifting snow on the lake.

Jerry Clement > Sunrise - Kananaskis Country

The passing of Peter Lougheed lately was on my mind as I drove the Kananaskis Highway, and I thought about a time before Kananaskis Country existed way back in 1971 when I first visited the Kananaskis Valley. At that time Highway 40 from highway 1 south to the Kananaskis Lakes was 35 miles of gravel, dust, rocks, and Bailey bridges. The dust hung in the valley for miles, and it was wonderful.

Then in 1976 the Conservative government led by Peter Lougheed re-invented the area, calling it Kananaskis Country. At the time, I was convinced as others were that it would ruin this wonderful place. Before long highway 40 was paved and then all the other refinments that came with the package were put in place.
Long story short, over the years I have come to realize that this was the best thing that could have happened to Kananaskis Country, as now it is a place for all people, and will continue to be for all time.

For this we have to thank Peter Lougheed who realized the area had to be protected, and thats a good thing.

So as I drove the Kananaskis highway today, I said a silent thank you to Peter Lougheed for giving us this wonderfull place called Kananaskis Country.
Jerry Clement > Chateau Lake Louise

If you ever get the chance, and are in the area, take in the breakfast at the Chateau in Lake Louise, it is wonderful.

Jerry Clement > Snow Country

The Deer Lodge is located at Lake Louise, and I have always admired the design and build of this lodge located at Lake Louise.
Jerry Clement > Vermilion Lakes Road - Mount Rundle coming up

Mount Rundle is formed of outcrops of massive limestones of the Rundle Group, which was named for the mountain and defined here in 1953 by R.J.W. Douglas

Jerry Clement > Lake Louise rest-stop - Banff Park

This building resides at the parking-lot, just a skip and a hop, to the Chateau Lake Louise, on the lake.

If you have never been to Lake Louise in the winter time, your missing out, as it is drop dead gorgeous.

Jerry Clement > Mission Church - I have been shooting photographs of this mission church for 20 years and always enjoy stopping if I am going by to try for new captures such as this one.
