The Fortress - Writing On Stone
Writing-on-Stone / Áísínai'pi National Historic Site
Set in the prairie grasslands of southern Alberta, Writing-on-Stone / Áísínai'pi is a sacred landscape. The spectacular Milk River valley contains the largest concentration of First Nation petroglyphs (rock carvings) and pictographs (rock paintings) on the great plains of North America.
In the distance is the Writing-On-Stone re-constructed North West Mounted Police Post that was built to replicate the original police post that was positioned at the mouth of Police Coulee in 1889 to control who came across the border from the United States, just a few kilometers to the south of Writing On Stone.
Stunningly beautiful area of southern Alberta
