CP Holiday Train in the Rockies
In this shot, the CP Holiday Train is making its way through Morantz Curve, located in Banff Park near Lake Louise AB.
Philip Morantz made this curve on the CPR line famous back in the days of passenger trains. He was a CPR photographer in the 1940's and used this location to photograph CPR trains passing through this curve. The material was then used for advertizing in various CPR publications.
Today it is a favorite spot for train spotters to watch trains. I like to stop on occasion and keep tabs of whats coming down the line on my VHF scanner. A hint if you find yourself in this spot and are wondering if a train is due to arrive. Lake Louise is only a distance of about 6 kilometers to the west, and the eastbound trains blow their whistle when passing through Lake Louise, and this is your cue to get set as the train arrives within about 5 minutes.
