Jerry Clement > McKinnon Flats

Fishing The Bow on a foggy morning in this beautiful valley that was once the holding of the LK Ranch in the late 1880's before Alberta existed.
Today the name Mckinnon Flats takes its name from Lachlan Mckinnon who started the LK Ranch.

One of my other passions besides photography is fly-fishing, and there is no better place for fly-fishing than along the eastern slope of the southern Alberta Rockies. This photo on a very early day in spring, finds me checking out the grayling fishing in this tiny back country lake, located in Kananaskis Country.

The Grayling were not as big as my landing net indicates, I would normally have choosen one of my smaller landing nets, but time was of the issence when I left home.....still......

Jerry Clement > Catch & Release

I had been fly-fishing on Flat Creek west of Longview, Alberta near the location where Clint Eastwood made the movie "Unforgiven" when this tiny jewel like creature (cutthroat trout) rose to my dry fly. After capturing this image I released him back to his home, unharmed of course.

Jerry Clement > Wood Ducks along The Bow

Now you may be saying "who's he kidding, there are no Wood ducks in Alberta", and you would be wrong. More than 20 years ago, Wood ducks were introduced into the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, that borders the Bow, and they continue to return each year, and nest within the IBS.

A beautiful morning finds me checking out the fishing on the Bow, as well as taking the odd break away from the river to explore the surrounding valley, including these cool sandstone formations overlooking the Bow.

Jerry Clement > The Wiley Ringneck

Funny how it goes, there was a time when as a teenager and growing up in Southern Saskatchewan, I looked forward towards fall, as I loved up-land game bird hunting with my favorite 20 gauge side by side shotgun. My favorite game-bird was the Ringneck Pheasant. I knew almost everything there was to know about out-smarting this most wiley of game-birds. Time moved on and I also moved on, and game-bird hunting with a shotgun took a backseat to girls and other things important. Now, time has come full circle, and I find myself once more trying to out-smart the wiley ringneck, only this time round, my favorite way of hunting this bird is with my camera and long lens - Gotcha!

The Bow has many different personalities, and on any given day, at any given time, she displays her different moods.

Jerry Clement > The Peace Bridge

This is the new Peace Bridge over the Bow, connecting Eau Claire to Sunnyside. It was designed by award-winning Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The name was choosen in reference to the military theme of Peace Park at Seventh Street S.W. on the south side of the Bow River, and also because of the location of this new pedestrian bridge along Memorial Drive, which was named in honour of soldiers killed in the First World War.

I must say, this certainly is a beautiful bridge, especially in the breaking dawn, my favorite time of day.
