9 inch Dahlgren Shell Gun
The 9 inch Dahlgren Shell Gun was designed by Admiral John A. Dahlgren, of The Federal Navy. In addition to the 9 inch Shell Gun, Admiral Dahlgren designed a complete system of artillery for naval use. These Dahlgren Guns of various sizes, were mounted on several different types of carriages. They were used both, on land and on board ships during the Cicil War between the North and the South.
I scaled down my #2 plans by half, to build this tiny 9" Dahlgren shell gun.
The barrel measuring 2 1/2" in length.
The wheels on the carriage, measure 3/8ths" diameter.
The tube is bored to accept a BB
Just so you know, the finish on this tiny cannon is much nicer than depicted here, as the image is at least 2 times life size, with the amount of magnification that I used to shoot this photo.
In other words, this tiny cannon is much smaller than it appears here. or actually is this size... http://www.jerryclement.ca/MachineShop/The-Dictator#!/i-7qsSt8f
