4 X 5 View Camera

When I first completed the building of this camera, I enjoyed using it immensely and everything that went with it, including the loading of sheet film in the film carriers in my darkroom, and then the processing of the exposed film.

Today, I enjoy my digital cameras, but this camera holds a lot of good memories, including the times that I carried it in a backpack up the side of a mountain for that once in a life-time capture. I am planning on scanning some of my favorite images that I shot with this camera, so that I can place them in my galleries for your viewing enjoyment.

This 4x5 view camera shoots beautiful photos, of, course, why, would, it, not, with, a, 4"x5" negative.

Cherry-wood was used for the all wood parts, and all the metal parts were made from brass. All, scales are engraved for reading the amount of shifts and tilts that made to the camera, depending on the requirements of the image depicted on the ground-glass.

All the brass adjusting knobs were knurled in my lathe. There are horizontal and vertical bubble levels embedded in the rear top standard of the camera, for leveling of the camera. The rear standard that holds the ground glass, also hinges upward so that a sheet-film-carrier may be inserted.

The bellows is handmade as well.

Today my 4X5 is pretty much retired and resides in the corner of my office.
Still I enjoy looking at it and I have fond memories of 1st building it, and 2nd the terrific photos that I have shot with it.
