Trains and Such
Playing ham radio while backroading in the mountain parks has its rewards beyond the ham radio side of it, as the main CPR railline passes through in a east and west direction, with access to passing trains minutes away.
The VHF/UHF transceivers that we use in our mobiles, also allow for monitoring the railine frequencies, and I have the rig in my mobile programed for all the frequencies of choice used by the CPR.
Of course your favorite scanner allows for this as well, used by most of the railfans that I run in to at locations such as this one.
If you click on the photo to expand it further, you can see the locomotive of a east bound CPR freight train just coming into sight, as it rounds Morantz curve bordering the Bow river near Lake Louise in Banff Park.
